Blogging Hiatus + Thrift Shopping / Sunday, February 20, 2011 @ 3:35 AM
Last week was kind of stressful for me because I had my IVT Training for 3 days. I'm glad I don't have to wake up at 5am again...for the next couple of days. Yah, that was the stressful part. I still have to undergo completion of my IVT cases next week for about 3-5 days... STRESS DRILON. Hahaha! Anyway, last Friday (February 11), I went on thrift shopping at Quiapo with my ka-barkada, A.M. Heard mass at Quiapo Church first, then ukay and accessories shopping after. I only brought 500 pesos with me. And guess what? After all the things we did that day, I even had more or less 100 pesos left in my pocket (food + transporation to and from included)! Cool, eh? Talking about Thrift/Ukay Shopping, it was the first time I did this. I did some research the night before and it really helped. We found this building along Villalobos St. and beside Mercury Drug. Almost the entire 1st floor's comprised of ukay stalls/stuff. Prices range from 10 pesos to less than 500 pesos, depending on what type of clothes they're selling. The place is air-conditioned, which is really a good thing, since it will be very difficult for us to shop in scorching heat plus the smell of old clothes! I have been to an ukay store in Baguio but I didn't last for, I think, a minute inside because my uber senstive nose can't take the smell of old clothes (and it's not even air-conditioned). The clothes don't really have this foul or mabahong smell, but they have this old-ish, chemical-ish smell. Anyway, after staying for a few minutes inside the building in Quiapo, I can already feel my itchy nose, but I tolerated it pretty well. I saw a couple of branded clothes like Liz Claiborne, Gap, Old Navy, Tommy Hilfiger, Mossimo, Levis, and a lot more. I'm really not after the brand names so I started looking for clothes that really fit my taste. I saw a bunch of maong shorts (mostly are branded) for 50 pesos but I was really hesitant to get them because I wanted to try them first. I didn't bother trying on all the clothes there, because yeah, most are already used and I don't even know what chemicals they used for it. I bought 5 tops from one stall which costs 50 pesos each. I haggled and got them from 40 pesos each = 200 pesos for the 5 items! Strolled around the floor and found a sign: "10 PESOS", and I was like, WOAAAAAH! I should get something from that rack of clothes! And yes I was lucky enough to find a green flower-ish blazer! Got tired from all the walking inside the building so we headed out to the accessories store just a few steps away from the ukay building. It's Wellmansons Accessories Shop, which I found out by just researching on-line. I have been there for the 3rd time already, I guess. The first time I was there, I bought raw materials for Kidada bracelets and second was with Rina, Renjie, and Homer (my college classmates). I love Wellmansons because they have a very wide selection of accessories, from raw materials to ready-to-wear and other cute stuff you can see in the malls, but you can buy it there in a much cheaper price! This time, I bought a snake connector ring, a bow ring, and a pair of pearl earrings. Total bill was less than 200 pesos. I wanted to buy this Chinese lucky charm bracelet, but I don't really wear bracelets that often. The Snake connector ring and Bow ring I bought from Wellmansons. I hope I could do this thrift shopping more often and try other places. At least once a month! I really feel very happy and fulfilled after buying those fab pieces without hurting my pocket!
